ICA Vancouver Hosts A Community Engagement Session For Museum For Canadians of South Asian Heritages in B.C.
YOUR INPUT VALUES A LOT!
When it comes to talking about identity, about saying who we are, talking about our roots, we all proudly say that we are from India or originally our parents or grandparents moved from India to Canada or from India to some other country and then to Canada. I have met so many people who are from Fiji, Mauritius and or the Caribbean and they are the descendants of Indian immigrants and later on moved to Canada. These people too like to associate with celebrations of any and all Indian traditions, holidays and festivals and still proudly say that their ancestors are from India.
People from Indian origin have been living in North America since before the Great Depression of 1929, yet even in today’s date we have to tell others that no Indian is not the official language of India , it’s Hindi.
So now after so many generations and so many decades, we have been given a golden opportunity by the government of British Columbia to dedicate a Museum or a Cultural Centre for recognition, appreciation and celebration of the history, the heritage, the presence and the contribution of people of South Asian Heritage.
British Columbians of South Asian Heritage has got this opportunity to share their vision for a new museum to highlight the history, culture and contributions to B.C. from Canadians of diverse South Asian heritages.
When such a significant chance awaits us to voice our opinions, how can an innovative organization like India Cultural Association (ICA) Of Vancouver stay aloof from not contributing towards the fulfillment of seeing this project come live successfully.
Neeraj Kumar, founder of ICA Vancouver is a well known member of our Indian Diaspora who has relentlessly contributed for numerous events, engagements, celebrations, festivals, etc. by contributing in various ways like volunteering, donating, sponsoring, publishing on his website etc.
This time again ICA Vancouver is hosting this extremely important event along with the support of BC Museums Association & Province of B.C. to invite your feedback for making this museum or cultural centre for appreciation of our South Asian identity to become a reality for our community and its identity in the society.
In this event you will get an opportunity to discuss your ideas, to contribute for the naming of the Museum/Cultural Centre. Your every little input matters.
This event is being hosted on September 29, 2024 from 10:00am-1:00pm at Bridge & Enrich Lives Society located at 718 E 20th Ave, Vancouver, BC V5V 1N2
