Neeraja Aptikar; a Hindustani classical vocalist and teacher teaching classical singing for the last 23 years is a name very well known in the Indian Diaspora of Greater Vancouver Area.
In an interview Neeraja explained that she always likes to encourage extremely talented local vocalists of the Indian Community in the Vancouver area. She wants the people of our community to recognize, support, appreciate, and celebrate our local artists who have had extensive background in learning Indian Classical music and who are passionate about and committed to music.
The concept of DivaRang sprung from the thought of appreciating local artists and giving due respect to the art of singing itself. Neeraja lays emphasis on the fact that singing is an art that can’t be appreciated in the noisy background of people gathering in banquet halls, talking and eating their way through live performance.
This event promises its audience a completely focused evening of music where you will enjoy live singing from talented artists without getting disturbed. The audience will have a break between the performances to enjoy sumptuous vegetarian snacks and beverages brought to you by a local restaurant in Burnaby Kurry Wala located at 6th Street near Agra Sweets. After the break the audience will find themselves immersed again into beautiful live music.
The cherry on cake is the cost and location of this event. It’s only $15.00 for live music and sumptuous snacks and the location is BNH Community Hall, 5024 Rumble Street, Burnaby. It’s located in the Metrotown area of Burnaby which is easily and conveniently accessible by transit.
About The Artists
Neeraja Aptikar and Neeraj Kumar would like you all to enjoy this wonderful evening of music and singing performance by four different artists:
Vishwesh Iyer: Vishwesh is originally from Mumbai is happy to be a part of the band known as Synthesis. He has learnt music for about 15 years and can sing in Hindi, Tamil, and Marathi languages.
Chandni Hari: Chandni is originally from Mumbai, Chandni is trained in Classical Carnatic music. Renders to old and new Bollywood songs, she is also a multilingual artist who sings in Malayalam, Tamil, Hindi and Marathi. Chandni has performed in many concerts in Mumbai. She has bagged the First Runner Up prize at the Talents of Canada contest of 2018. She will definitely steal your heart with her unique style and soulful singing. Formed the band Synthesis with Vishwesh Iyer and Kaushik Tilak in 2020.
Sushweta Banerjee: Sushweta hails from West Bengal, has 13 yrs of training in Hindustani Classical music. She has done B. A. ( Music) and has performed in India and in Vancouver in LMBCS society and Prabash Bangla. She sings classical as well as Bollywood songs.
Prakriti Hemmige Raghavan: Prakriti hails from a family of scholars. She started her music journey at a very young age in Bangalore. Trained in Carnatic Classical Music, she later broadened her skills in light music such as film music, ghazal and bhajans. She has performed in India, Africa and now is actively performing in Vancouver, Canada.
