In a historic and heartwarming move, the Government of British Columbia has officially proclaimed November 2025 as Hindu Heritage Month across the province. The proclamation recognizes the significant contributions of Hindu communities to the social, cultural, political, and economic fabric of the province. The Government of Canada had already announced it in 2022. Now the Province of B.C. has also designated it in early October 2025.
This monumental recognition celebrates over 80,000 Hindus living in British Columbia and the deep roots they’ve established since the early 20th century. From the vibrant celebrations of Diwali, Navratri, and Durga Puja to their continuous contributions to community building, Hindu Canadians have enriched the multicultural mosaic of B.C.
The Proclamation Highlights:
- Hinduism as the world’s third-largest religion with a thriving and growing presence in B.C.
- The rich cultural, spiritual, and artistic traditions brought by Hindu immigrants since the early 1900s
- The celebration of major festivals in November and the educational importance of Hindu Heritage Month
- An opportunity to honour and learn about the diverse customs, languages, values, and philosophies of Hinduism
