Prabash Bangla is a cultural organization committed to promote Bengali culture among Bengali diaspora in Metro Vancouver
“PRABASH BANGLA” is a registered non-profit Bengali Cultural Society promoting social-cultural heritage of Bengali-speaking community descendants from both India & Bangladesh now residing in the Lower mainland of the greater Vancouver area. By fostering and uplifting the Bengali traditions and its rich cultural values among the Bengali-speaking community, we feel proud to be a part of Canada’s multicultural diverse society. By organizing cultural events throughout the year, the older generation is trying to attract the large population of growing younger generations to their ancestral root and cultural heritage and inculcate the habit of preserving for the future generation. Our event offers great opportunities to develop a taste of rich and diverse Bengali festivals, literature, music, and arts.
Prabash Bangla has been relentlessly working on to put maximum effort in developing cultural activities among the community people and inspiring the younger generation who are detached from their ancestral land. Regular meetings, social gatherings, festivals, symposiums on arts and literature, debate, and public speaking are a few initiatives taken by community members throughout the year to inspire the flavor of Bengali culture among the younger generation. Prabash Bangla will soon launch its Web portal that would include its cultural and social activity including its mandate, mission, and details of upcoming cultural projects. A few of the annual cultural events in our calendar include a celebration of the birth anniversary of two great Poets Philosophers/Lyricists/ Music Composers/Social Reformers, the first Asian Nobel Laureate world-poet Rabindranath Tagore and rebel poet Kazi Nazrul Islam. Nazrul was not limited to Islamic devotional music but also wrote Hindu devotional music. He composed Agamanis, Bhajans, Shyama sangeet, and kirtan.
Apart from major events, Prabash Bangla focuses on smaller community events such as;
• Musical programs expressing and developing young and upcoming talents
• Discussions of literature and art
• Readings of poetry and other writing
• Lectures and musical performances by visiting scholars, writers, musicians, and artists
