The Province has launched a public engagement to inform the vision for a new museum or cultural centre in B.C. This museum or cultural centre will highlight the histories, cultures, and contributions to British Columbia from Canadians of diverse South Asian heritages.
The official name is not yet determined for this Museum (or cultural centre) of South Asian heritages in B.C. It is going to be a difficult task which name will be preferred by everyone, and what should this new museum/cultural centre be called is a part of the engagement. Other conversations or questions for the this engagement process could be What does the new museum/cultural centre’s name need to convey? These are the kinds of questions along with the location, vision, and purpose of the new museum/cultural centre.
Diverse Perspective:
The BC government is seeking feedback from a wide and diverse range of perspectives to carefully balance what is shared, and what is unique and distinctive, between and within particular communities.
South Asian Region:
South Asia is a huge region. As per Wikipedia the counties that makes the South Asian region are India, Nepal, Bhutan, Sri Lanka, Bangladesh, Afghanistan, the Maldives, and Pakistan.

- Public Engagement Session by Culture Chats BC Association on July 28, 2024; 2pm-4pm
- Public Engagement Session by South Asian Collective Society on August 16, 2024; 6pm-8pm
- Public Engagement Seesion by ICA Vancouver on September 29, 2024; 10am-1pm

How Individuals can participate?
Online Submissions:
All British Columbians can help to imagine the future of a new museum/cultural centre, even if they cannot attend a community engagement session.
Individuals and organizations are also able to submit online submissions. This will allow interested individuals and organizations to provide more in-depth input on the engagement questions, within a timeframe that works best for them. Submissions are accepted in written, video, and audio form.

Public Survey:

Anonymous feedback from engagement activities, such as this survey, will be compiled and analyzed to identify themes to form a public What We Heard report.
