Bharata natyam is one of the many Indian classical dance styles\, originally performed in the temples of South India by the devadasis as an offering to the gods. Bharata natyam survived abolition and near extinction\, to be revived and brought up to the stage some 100 years ago. Come\, enjoy the beauty and depth of this intricate dance form by graduates Kiruthika Rathanaswami\, Malavika Santhosh\, Veena and Krishna Vinod\, Aishwarya Roshan\, Nikisha Khare\, Madhavi and Nandini Soni\, Chandhana Nambiar\, Ria Goel\, Shayna Dandina\, senior students Melanie Chevrier and Hamsini Venkatramani and beginner students of the academy. \nMANDALA ARTS AND CULTURE was founded by Jai Govinda\, also past Artistic Director for 25 years. Mandala is a Vancouver based company dedicated to producing\, developing and presenting bharata natyam and other Indian classical dance styles. Under the new artistic direction and management of Kiruthika Rathanaswami\, Mandala continues to follow Jai Govinda’s legacy of excellence in bharata natyam by training students through the academy\, and giving them opportunities to perform\, share\, and train other students.
